Your handle appears in canonical game links:

Public owner profile

The same handle opens the public profile for the game owner:
The owner profile shows public listed games. API keys, private account data, draft games, and retained handles never appear. Studio profiles are coming soon. The studio route remains visible as a disabled preview and is not available for setup yet.

Handle rules

A handle contains 2–39 characters:
  • lowercase letters,
  • digits,
  • single hyphens between characters.
A handle cannot begin or end with a hyphen, contain doubled hyphens, or use a reserved name.

Renaming

Existing links keep working after a rename. Totem retains the old handle as a permanent redirect and reserves it to your account. You can rename twice in a rolling 30-day window and retain up to five handles. The dashboard shows:
  • renames remaining in the current window,
  • the day the window opens again,
  • every retained handle,
  • a Reclaim action for one of your retained handles.
Reclaiming your own retained handle does not use a rename allowance.
A retired handle stays reserved to you. You cannot release it for another account through self-service.
When either limit is reached, Totem returns rename_limit with retry_after_days. The dashboard shows a full-page limit state instead of a temporary toast. handle_taken stays intentionally generic. Totem does not reveal whether another account currently uses or previously retired a handle.

Installed games

Installed apps use /g/<slug>, not a handle-based scope. Renaming a handle therefore cannot break an installed game.
